The perfect cocktail is the cherry on top of a summer wedding. It’s just the thing to keep guests refreshed in the heat and tie the entire wedding theme together in one sip. Naturally, there are thousands of recipes out there to sift through – so to give you a head start, we picked out three of our favourites that are sure to be a hit at your big day.

fruit-melon-watermelonWatermelon Mojito

Of course, we had to start with something watermelon-flavoured! You can’t go wrong picking a seasonal summer fruit as your base. We love this recipe from Food & Wine because it’s sweet and sour in all the right ways, leaving you with that classic summer taste in any month of the year.

For 4 drinks, you’ll need:

20 mint leaves, chopped

2 tablespoons superfine sugar

1/2 cup fresh lime juice

Crushed ice

3/4 cup light rum

6 ounces seedless watermelon, pureed

In the bottom of a large shaker, muddle the mint, sugar and 1/4 cup of the lime juice. Fill the shaker with ice. Add the rum, watermelon and the remaining 1/4 cup of lime juice; shake well. Strain into old-fashioned glasses over ice.

Tequila Sunrise

This one by Martha Stewart is a particular favourite, since the orange tequila over the pomegranate juice creates a beautiful ombre effect. Your guests will be lining up to snap a picture of one, and then again to enjoy another tasty glass!

For 6 drinks, you’ll need:

4 cups orange juice, preferably fresh (from about 8 oranges)

2 cups tequila

1 cup plus 2 tablespoons pomegranate juice

When it comes to drinks that will keep you cool in the summer heat, Minimalist Baker hit the nail right on the head with this cooler. It’s light, fresh, and has the perfect amount of crunch thanks to the slices of cucumber.

For 1 drink, you’ll need:

1.5 oz gin (or 3 Tbsp)

4-6 cucumber slices

1/4 lime, sliced

4 oz tonic water

6 mint leaves

1 Tbsp sugar (optional)

Muddle mint, lime, gin, sugar (if using) in a shaker. Next, add in the cucumber slices and shake vigorously. Pour the mixture over glass filled with ice and top with tonic water. Stir, and let set for a few minutes to enhance the flavours.

We hope this post gave you some ideas for you own cocktail menu. Whatever you choose, we’re sure that it will be a delicious finishing touch to your special day. Let us know which one you’ll be trying in the comments!
