With the growing popularity of Pinterest, finding inspiration for and planning your own wedding can be a fun and exciting experience, and doing a D.I.Y. wedding is definitely not impossible! If you decide to embark on the adventure of planning your own wedding, you need to know about these four things that you should never try to do yourself under any circumstances!
As I said earlier, planning your own wedding is not impossible – but planning everything means sacrificing a lot of time you’d normally allocate to other aspects of life. Leaving work early for consultations during business hours, late night emailing and outsourcing, diminishing time with family and leisure activities, and more stress are often involved in doing everything yourself. So you can plan it all, but make sure you’re ready to make this kind of commitment. Wedding planners make careers out of planning for a reason!
Unless you only want a bouquet for yourself, and you want to do it yourself on the day of the wedding when you’ll likely find yourself stressing about the rest of the day, don’t do your own flowers. There are so many reasons why, but importantly, it is an incredibly time-consuming endeavour and in the case of real flowers, it can only be done on the day of unless you want to spend all of your time trying to keep them fresh and alive.
When it comes to weddings, food is very similar to flowers in the way it’s handled. It’s extremely time-consuming, and unless you’re only serving desserts, it has to be done on the day of the wedding. Unless you’re planning to make a four-course meal for 150 guests in your gorgeous white gown right before walking down the aisle, it can’t be done – so it’s best to leave this to the professionals.
It’s possible that you could end up with a selfie stick as a wedding gift, and them maybe you could take some pictures – but as the feature of the day, you need to be in all of the pictures taken at your wedding. This is one of the most important days of your life, and skimping on the photography would be something to regret! Hire an expert: it will be worth it to invest in beautiful, lasting memories for you and for your family and friends.
Most of the little details of a wedding are easily accomplished as D.I.Y. projects, so go ahead and give it your best shot – but leave these four major areas of your wedding to the pros so your big day won’t go up in flames!
